Hi, We are AU permanent residents, and our mother language is spanish, we are planning to move for good to Sydney next July. We have two girls (4 and 2) and we have a lot of questions, please if you can help us we will really thanks.
Here you have the questions:
- Which are the best education options for these ages? (child care, pre.school, long day care, etc)
- What do we have to do to register them in the educational system?
- Do we have to put them in a waitinglist? How long before?
- How easy is for children from overseas to overcome the language barrier?
- If we arrive to AU in July, Are we still on time to get a place to star immediately? Do you recomend that?
As you can note, we have a lot of questions! any support or orientation that you offer to us will be very usefull!
Thank you very much!
Which are the best education options for these ages? (child care, pre.school, long day care, etc)
At 4 and 2 I suggest long day care for the younger child and preschool for the older one. Your eldest will probably go to primary school at age 5 (depends if the childs birthday is early in the year or later.) day care centers vary in quality greatly. you should not make arrangements without investigating personally.
- What do we have to do to register them in the educational system?
Contact the primary schools of your choice.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find a place in a preschool that suits you. If you know the area you will be living in I suggest contacting preschools in that area as early as possible.
- Do we have to put them in a waitinglist? How long before? There will be a place for your child within the public education system. if you prefer a private school you may need to register for a waiting list.
Depends on the preschool. Some private preschools and schools do have waiting lists.
- How easy is for children from overseas to overcome the language barrier?
Children adapt readily to new languages especially at that age. Its not something to concern yourself with.
- If we arrive to AU in July, Are we still on time to get a place to star immediately? Do you recomend that?
The school year starts in January so it would be wise to contact pre schools to make arrangements.
