quite the interesting day. and a plan is starting to take shape...

I may be moving the fifth wheel camper down 20 miles south of town (about the same distance I an NW now) and settle it on the back corner of an 80 acre cattle ranch. longhorns even...

I will reside there as the on site handyman.

and I will purchase the house in town to work on, but not live in...(still waiting on a call accepting or not my offer, but I have decided that I will up it if necessary since I don't have to try and winter there)

and my chickens will make the move to the ranch with me.

interesting day part deux...

mr vw and I went to "family dinner" at the retreat tonight.

and the indian medicine women were visiting.

lots of good vegetarian fare, good wine, good herbs, and interesting topics of conversation...

I was so inspired I came home and changed stinky's litter box.

we're gonna sleep soundly tonight...

@Rockhead,
A lot of new plans in such a short time - I'm impressed! Good luck with all of them, hope they all come to fruition.

Meantime, here it is pouring with rain - torrential rain - bit of a surprise after the sudden heat of yesterday. Glad for the sake of the garden though. Just wish I didn't have to go out in it.

@vonny,
fast is key.

I have to be someplace real before November. after that the weather is too unpredictable (other than cold) to try and move anywhere that is not already established.

the trailer has been sitting at grampa jack's unused since I have been out here. and I just happened to ask off the cuff about there being a spot to put it out at the ranch, mostly so as to have a place to work from while I was all the way down there welding fence for days at a time. (we will build about 500 feet of iron pipe fence, 5 feet tall with a top bar and 3 crossbars. it's old oil field pipe. very heavy. enough to stop a mad longhorn)

then when I went and saw the spread, and heard the backstory, it seemed like a good place to offer my services as part time ranch hand. the ranch owner is legally blind. I work with his son when I rig at the arena. he used to have a guy doing just about what I am offering, except that he was not as handy or hard working as I am. (he didn't come equipped with a big welder)

it kinda reminds me of my granddad's place in Misery when I was little. (less the pigs of course) very wide open and peaceful. quiet lowing of cows. big barns and tractors, and big 4x4 trucks.

lots of stuff to break and fix...

still waiting to hear from my attorney about the house.

if it all works out, great. if one part falls down it won't affect the overall exit strategy.

and mr vw has agreed to take me in at his place of business until I resettle my shop...

@Rockhead,
I think everybody on A2K echoes JPB's good wishes - and sends lots of hope to you!

Your plans sound logical and well thought out - pieces of a jigsaw seem to be falling into place now - I hope everything goes really well.

Poor Stinky - but he'll soon settle - his home is where you are.

@vonny,
I doubt that I have as many fans out there as you think, but I will take any I can get for now.

it's gonna be a rough coupla months no matter how I slice it.

I have an appointment to paint the vert in three weeks.

a year ago there is no way I could have faced all of this physically.

If I can keep the stress outta it, (and work some more concerts) I think I can make it go this time...

@Rockhead,
It's great that you've come this far, and that your health has improved enough for you to even consider the move, new job, and new lifestyle. It may be rough in the next month or two, but you need to be optimistic - work with the stress rather than fight against it. Optimism seems to reduce stress-induced inflammation and levels of stress hormones such as cortisol. Just believe in yourself and you'll be okay, I'm sure of it.

@vonny,
I just heard from my attorney.

I am a homeowner...

and I went out and finalized plans for the camper.

it is mine if I get the job on the ranch...

gonna go to town and measure some openings, then go see the nice folks at the habitat for humanity "re-store".

I need some lightly used doors and windows...

@Rockhead,
Vagrant occupied scary, or creepy haunted house scary? Eeeew - sounds great!!! What about a 'fraidy hole, or secure storm shelter - at the house or on the ranch?

@vonny,
there is a cellar at the townhouse.

out on the ranch, I can blow for several counties if I get caught in a twister.

(I rarely stay inside during violent weather)

but I won't worry until next spring mostly...
