Applying for Patent Pending

Hi - I have been sitting on an invention for 10 years now, waiting for someone else to come up with - but it still hasn't happened.

I am new to the US and would like to have a crack at doing something about getting the invention funded, or at least looked at, or even drawn. It's trapped in my head at the mo.

Should my first move to be put a 'patent pending' in place?

If so, does anyone know how to do this?

I would greatly appreciate some kernels of advice.

Many thanks,
Hal

I think "patent pending" means a patent has been applied for. This would at least imply that drawings and a working model were in existance. What you have sounds more like an idea.
