How does that grab you? The Daily Telegraph disclosed that agents from MI6 (British Secret Intelligence Service) had entered secret talks with Taliban leaders despite recent UK premier's pledge that Britain would not negotiate with terrorists!
Just think of it! Our main allies in war on terrorism are in negotiations with terrorists, who supported the September 11 attackers! What the devils! Moreover, British military are doing it without our US administration's knowledge although it has become known that, the SIS officers have had meetings with various armed militia of Taliban up to half a dozen times in the presence of Afghan officials from President Hamid Karzai's government!
It is clear that the UK and, first of all, Gordon Brown continues to deny reports of secret British talks with the Taliban. Britain says it only tries to support efforts of present Afghan government to negotiate with local tribal fighters, who are supporting the Talibs now, in order to persuade them to change sides. But the disclosure that Britain is in secret talks with the Taliban has come only a fortnight after UK Prime Minister told the House of Commons that British side would never enter into any negotiations with the Taliban! Now G. Brown states that GB supports Karzai's initiative to negotiate with Talibs. How can we place confidence in such allies, those, who dare to lie like gas-meters?..
Many local tribal leaders were paid to join the Taliban side and wish to stop fighting. If we can show them a way out either by paying them more, or by other methods, we should do so. Many UK newspapers have said that the British Secret Intelligence Service and Diplomatic Service have been in discussion with some of the wavering ones.
Things are not helped by the Americans jumping in with their size 10 boots and their black and white John Wayne mentality. Considering the mess they have made in Iraq, maybe a big tall glass of STFU might be in order?
Anyway, this "ally" thing seems all one way. Britain has to kiss Uncle Sam's arse and call him "boss" and what do they get back? Basically, zilch.

Don't the British often speak a more nuanced English? They just might be better at these sort of things, what with umbrellas to tap the ground for emphasizing specific points. Plus, any negotiations would include tea (perhaps with crumpets); wouldn't that make many people more amenable to conciliatory agreements?
You mean, foofie, MI6 should work like the CIA does?
How does one lie like a gas-meter? (or a gas meter as it is written nowadays?)

I only mean what I say. Any analogies you make are yours; you need not ask for my agreement.
