You earn the privilege by spending far too much time posting at this site.

I think this belongs in the "Do you trust Craven?" category.

I would point out that posting this in the "Quotes" forum is a poor way to learn about how the site works. If you have any questions in future, i suggest you click on "Forums" at the upper right hand side of the page, and then look at the topics there. You can often find an answer to your question, and if not, you can start a new thread in that forum, where you will get a more prompt answer.

CLick here to be taken to an administrator response which will give you far more information about private messaging than you ever wanted.

That link probably includes the information that posting just to bring your post total up is exceedingly frowned on (I haven't checked the link, having just read a whole thread about private messages...)

Actually, the first link in Jespah's post takes you to an explanation which states that there is an algorithm which governs when a member is to be granted PM privileges. That post (the one linked in the post which i have linked) states that the privilege is not granted in response to a simple number of posts, and that the administrators don't intend to reveal the PM threshhold, so as not to encourage spammers.

I really wonder why a newbie would even want to post a personal message, unless it was for the purpose of spam. After all, when a member has just joined, they don't know anybody yet.

That's not necessarily so . . . a new member may well have been directed here by an existing member. Even so, they might want to speak privately to another member who has responded in a thread.

You sound just a tad paranoid.

More than a tad. Years ago, I had a huge poster in my kitchen. It said,

"Just because you're paranoid does not mean that they are NOT out to get you." Laughing

I take my paranoia very seriously!
