Moving to Australia, need help with apartment search

Two of my friends and I are planning on moving to Australia in March for at least 3 months, maybe more. We are all 22 year old professional poker players from the USA. None of us have ever been to Australia but we're looking for a change of scenery and it seems like a good fit.

We're looking for a furnished place that is really close to a beach that has decent surfing while also being in a city with fun nightlife/culture. So far Sydney tops our lists and we're particularly looking at Bondi and Manly Beach. Do these places fit our criteria best?

We're using realestate.com.au and domain.com.au to search for places. Is there a better method?

We'd appreciate any help/recommendations that you can offer.

I think maybe you had better get your visa requirements sorted out. You can only migrate to Australia, that is, go to live there permanently, under certain specified circumstances, which include having a job to go to, or a recognised desired skill or profession. Gambling is very heavily regulated in Australia, and I have a very strong feeling that "professional poker playing" is not the sort of professional skill that would get you admitted!

On the other hand, you may be able to get a 3 month tourist visa, but you would be in breach of its conditions (i.e. a criminal liable to deportation and exclusion) if you engaged in professional gambling (or any other kind of gainful work) under such a visa. You will need to show (prove) that you have enough funds to support yourself in Australia for the whole of your proposed stay.

If you go to Australia on a tourist visa, with the intention of making money by poker playing, you may well be deemed to have a false statement to get the visa, which is itself a criminal offence.

If you cant find a suitable apartment backpacker hostels might fill the gap until you can.

Do I need a Visa to attend an APPT event?

Citizens of most countries require a visa to enter Australia. Please see here for visa options. Please also consult your travel agent.

I would enter through a tourist visa, which means I can't be employed while I'm in Australia, it doesn't mean I can't play poker. As long as online poker isn't illegal in Australia, I can't be prohibited from playing just because I'm good at it. Razz If it is more palpable to you, consider us 22 year old retirees who enjoy poker, since we all have enough money saved up to allow us to forego work the 3 months we're down in Australia if we so choose.

Anyways, thanks for the concern on that front, but I'm more focused right now on finding the best place for us to live. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

realestate.com.au and domain.com.au are the two leading realestate websites in Australia, so they are good places to start.

Just be aware that Australian rental leases run for six months, not 3. The Real Estate Agent claims 4 weeks worth of rent when it leases the property.

At a guess, to get a vendor interested in leasing to you, you would have to pay significantly higher, probably the nominated Rent plus that fee the Real Estate Agent would otherwise take take (otherwise the owner only gets two months rent, and then has to lose money again while waiting for another tennant to come along - not very enticing).

When you say 'what is the best place to live', do you mean the best suburb in a given price range, the suburb with the most entertainment/things to do/nightlife, or one that's close to beaches/national parks etc etc etc?
