I wish you could learn about what is going on in Georgia right now! This is something that I can hardly describe but I will try. First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Bedisa, 32, I came to live to Georgia two years ago when my husband decided to start up his business here. That's not the point though for I want to tell about recent opposition protest demonstration that took place on the Rustaveli Square. It so happened that the windows of our apartment look right into it so I was unwillingly eyewitnessing the whole thing happening. It was a merely horrible thing! As far as I could see it, the police fiercely attacked demonstrators using stun batons and other stunning devices against them. Besides, I heard somebody shooting and later my husband told me that the police have shot down five people.... I am afraid to go out and look out the window for I fear to stop a chance bullet. Besides that, yesterday I felt something eccentric in the air coming through the window. Something that caused a fit of coughing that turns you inside out. I tried to seal the window but it did not help. That was something insufferable. I though I was going to die because my lungs shrunk up and did not work.... I was asphyxiating and fainting.... It was like a nightmare when you feel you can do nothing to stop it.... My husband was out of home at that moment. When he came back, he found me lying on the floor hardly able to breath. He said it must have been some sort of unconventional asphyxiant gas that the police brought into use against demonstrators! That was a terrible offense! I am still astonished that I managed to come through it but still I have to labor for breath. Still yet, it turned out that this gas can be lethal in some cases. I felt I was quaking with fright when I learned that an old woman and a baby living next door to us died after that gas attack! How horrible! How it is horrible that president Saakashvili ordered to use this gas against civilian people! I think that Saakashvili must be mad or something! I think that after this he must not stay president any longer! He must face a sentence by the Court of the Hague for he is a tyrant! What is most surprising, this tyrant is supported by Washington! Perhaps, it was Washington that suggested Saakashvili to use this gas and even supplied him with it? What a madness!

Welcome to A2K, Bedisa

Apparently after having cracked down on the demonstrations there in Tbilisi, Saakashvili is offering to hold early presidential elections to appease the opposition parties:

"A day after the imposition of a state of emergency in Georgia, President Mikheil Saakashvili proposed an early presidential election as a way to resolve the country's political crisis. The offer, however, does not address the closure of two pro-opposition television stations. In addition, officials have not addressed the reported disappearance of two opposition leaders accused of collaboration with Russian intelligence services."

For background on the crisis:
