You Are Formally Invited to a Book Burning

For real, there is a book burning in the offing. Thing is, the pastor says it goes beyond books, to anything representing Satan. So, please bring anything in your life that represents Satan, and we shall have the greatest bonfire of the kind in history. Off the top of my head, I have some books for the blaze: Phillip Wylie, Henry Miller, James Joyce. What say? What can you pitch on the pile?

Pastor Organizes Book Burning
by Sarah Puckett

A magnolia man has organized a couple of book burnings, which he says are intended to help people define for themselves what is Satanic in life.

Dr. Gerald Sadler, owner of A-Plus Auto and pastor of Christian Life Church on SH 249 near Decker-Prairie Rosehill Road, is organizing the book burning. He said the book burn is more of a symbol to get people's attention rather than just wanting to protest and burn things.

"We as a world have gotten to such a point that it has become acceptable to read about, practice and watch Satan.," Sadler said.

He said he he once challenged a book in the Tomball Independant School District which taught elementary school kids how to become a witch.

"Harry Potter is full of witchcraft and wizardry; that is not God's way; that is Satan's way," Sadler said.

Sadler said people should bring anything that represents Satan in their lives to the burning - It doesn't have to be a book.

(edit)

He said the world needs to go back to the values that this nation was founded on, "Biblical values."

Let there be a lesson... a cautionary tale:

in something like (don't trust me, I'm not Set) 1495, Savonarola, the dominican monk, orchestrated the burning of vanities in piazza Signoria. There was music played and cardinals swaying... or, at least present, for the burning of books and mirrors and jewels..
There was more than one burning of vanities, but that was the heyday.

Then, I think in 1500, Savonarola was burned in a pyre right there himself.

Great idea. For starters, I think that Dr. Gerald Sadler should be burned at the stake! Evil or Very Mad

It would be logical to bring Fred Phelps to the burning. I'm sure even Sadler would agree Phelps is a tool of the devil.

(Well, he did say it didn't have to be a book).

They sell used Playboys at church bazaars these days at 10 for a £.

Playboy was the work of the goodiest little bunch of Mumsie's darlings that ever got into print.

Beware DW- you can't insult Satan like that with impunity.

Curious George and the High Voltage Fence (USA, 1988). The world's favorite inquisitive monkey learns "don't whizz on the electric fence".

Baldylocks and the Three Hairs (Canada, 1989). Written at the height of the PC movement, Baldylocks is the heartwarming tale of a follically challenged Accountant from Winnipeg.

The Origin of the Species (UK, 1859). Charles Darwin, the worst children's book writer of all time, writes this tedious tale as a follow up to his less well known book The Stork: The Origin of the Babies.
