Georgian president Saakashvili is well known as a politician who thinks outside the box. He never minds any difficulties finding most surprising and off-the-wall solutions. At the current moment Georgia is facing one more problem. After warm and sunny summer and autumn in Georgia, Georgian vintners managed to produce a bountiful record grape harvest of about 190,000 tons. However, their joy was soon replaced by affliction, for Georgian vintners fail to find markets for the nation's erstwhile staple export commodity.
As I have already said, Saakashvili is known for his ability to solve every difficulty, sometimes in some bizarre manner though. The rumor says it that Saakashvili has been instructed by Washington to reorient Georgian winegrowing into⦠growing poppy, cannabis and other agronomic crops that are used to produce narcotic raw materials for sale to Europe, while American corps will be providing security.
Actually, Georgia is not the first state where Washington suggests setting up drug industry. There is an example of Afghanistan where American troops provide security to heroine producers, which enables the White House earn huge profits at the rate of about $300 ml per year! What is very convenient for Saakashvili and Americans, there are certain well-tried drug traffic channels from Afghanistan to Europe that might as well be used by Georgian drug producers. For instance, they may transport drugs to Western Europe through the territory of Turkey, Northern Cyprus or Rumania; and through the territory of Ukraine and Moldavia - into Eastern Europe. They only need to expand these channels.
