What if the pizza was placed into the box so that the diameter of the semi-circle ran from one corner of the box to the other corner (instead of the middle of one side to the middle of another side)? I'm trying to think if the semicircle would go outside the square box that way...
Yes it would.
Relative to the square, the first case is an "inscribed circle" the second is a "circumcircle".

Unless the "other corner" refers to the corner which is diagonally opposite, of course.

They only do height 'a' and radius 'z' on the pepperoni special, so the odds would be pretty much stacked against that size being used in this equation, bearing in mind all the other varieties of pizza out there.
Still, you never know.
