Has anyone else seen the movie "Outsourced"? It's been making me think about outsourcing lately. My roommate keeps complaining that my weights smell like toxic death because they are made in China (isn't everything?) and they use crazy chemicals that we wouldn't allow here in the US and she's sure I'm going to kill myself using them and I'm deluded for thinking I'm contributing to my health. I'm not sure how I feel, it's a complex issue. I do know that my fat American drive for cheap convenience causes the problem, but I'm not sure I have all that much choice in the matter. How do you feel about outsourcing?
It is inevitable! In order to stay competitive, cheap labor is almost a
necessity in today's economy. Of course, we shouldn't short-cut quality
for quantity and profit, but the recent recalls for goods from China taught
us, that everything has its price.
Nonetheless, China is an important trading partner, and will remain so
in the future.
What do we do when the standard of living normalizes worldwide due to globalization? Where will the cheap labor come from then? I don't have anything against outsourcing, just been thinking about it a lot lately because I saw that movie Outsourced (which isn't a documentary, it's actually a sweet cross-cultural romantic comedy).
