No problems Jane I have plenty of time to answer inane questions from any "blondes".
I am absolutely gob smacked at how ignorant some Americans are regarding the rest of the world.

Mind you I do understand that there are some 300 mill USA citizens. They can't all be complete idiots.

When it comes to when it comes to flights an airline company is a good place to start. Possibly a travel agent may be worth a call.

Again, thankyou dadpad.

It's nice to Know there are kind people out there.

Americans, ignorant, I just visited there and they seemed really nice actually, shows what you know. However, being English, I havent met all americans so I wouldnt want to be so shallow as to judge them all. I will leave that to the nice people of the world, like your good self.

Just for the record, I was only trying to make conversation, generalising, unfortunately I had the pleasure of having a reply from you, I'm hoping that doesnt happen again.

Bye now, have a nice life.

That was an excellent reply Jane. I think dadpad put his
foot in it big time. So now Jane you have met some ignorant
Australians. I have met a few Americans, and they were
without exception, very nice and obliging people.
I am sure there are some people here who can help.
Hope you enjoy your stay in Oz.

Hi Jane.. I was originally from the UK nearly 60 years ago ( I'm pretty old ) You will find us Aussie's pretty funny sort of people, don't have a great regard for authority of any kind...unless you earn it first. Sydney is in New South Wales, Melbourne is in Victoria... Victoria is where the rest of the Australian states send their sh@t weather. Sydney has the biggest coat hanger in the world and the biggest oyster shells in the world stacked next to it. It's a great place and I have many great friends there ( also a lot of relations and friends in Melb as well, who are great and I feel very sorry for them having to live there Laughing ).
Sydney has top class restaurants and fabulous beaches, it's a very very busy place to live.. Cheapest accommodation is in the suburbs, a flat , depending where... Would be in the range of $250 up per week, share accommodation is the cheapest way to go. Can't help you with air fares etc.
If you have any trouble with getting a job in nursing, ( which I doubt ) up here on the Gold Coast in Queensland, they are desperately short of nurses and I feel sure if you were to contact a hospital here, they would more than likely, be able to help you out as far as accommodation is concerned as well.. The gold Coast is of course, the best place in Aussie to work and live, we have the best sub tropical weather, we are very, very friendly. Have over 500 top restaurants, a population of half a million permanents and floating one of a quarter of a million tourists, heap of good night clubs ( so my grand children tell me ) absolutely, the best beaches in Aussie... And I'm not bias in any way Embarrassed . If you want any other info just ask.

Anton,

Thankyou for your reply. The Gold Coast sounds fantastic. I will most certainly be looking into it. If you are on commission for the area, you will i'm sure be loaded as you have me practically sold, ha. Thanks again for your advice.

Take care.

Jane

Afraid I would most likely agree with most of your comments on em Shocked also, I think 60 years living here and arranging the personal production of dinkey die Aussies and drinking vast amounts of Fosters lager and 4X in my early years and even greater amounts of good Aussie reds in the later one's makes me a dinkey die one. Well, ya know, Jane ... that's not such an unreasonable expectation at all ...

Maybe part of dadpad's little outburst (if we can call it that  ) is to do with the fact that we get heaps of requests for information about moving to Oz like yours (take a look under the "Australia" forum here)... & it's taken some of us ages to answer them. If someone is really serious about making such a big move I think it's fairly reasonable of them to have checked a map before discussing possible places to settle & work.
But at least you thank those who've taken the time & effort to help out. Honestly, I've spent ages looking for real estate options, jobs, locations to settle, etc, etc, & some folk never bother to even post back. It can make you a wee bit bit cranky sometimes!

Anyway, good luck to you, Jane! I hope it all works out as you'd hope!

msolga,

Thankyou for your reply, maybe I was a bit silly asking if Melbourne was in NSW, I didnt however expect the reaction I got from Dadpad, I thought it was out of line. It was just that I was on this site at the time and thought I would add it on to the end of my message. I did later check the map, I didnt think I would be hung, drawn and quartered for it. Laughing

Anyway, nice talking to you, take care

Jane
