Harmony Gold Says 3,200 Miners Are Stuck in Underground Mine

By Stewart Bailey

Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Harmony Gold Mining Co., Africa's third-largest gold producer, said 3,200 workers are stuck more than a mile underground at its Elandsrand mine in South Africa after a falling pipe damaged the shaft.

No workers were injured and the company can't give an estimate of when the miners will be brought to surface, spokesman Amelia Soares said today in a telephone interview from Johannesburg.
