Yeah, I almost included "other than South Africa" in the question. After that I'm very curious.

probably the north - Egypt, Libya, Algeria... Nigeria would be towards the top as well (oil).

actually, looking it up - seems like Nigeria is not near the top. The Northern countries have highest GDP (not included in the map below), then the South, then Gabon, it seems, and Mauritius.
