I'm retro back to LeCarre's first books--currently "The Looking Glass War," after redoing "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold," "Call for the Dead," and "A Murder of Quality."

Can you tell I am an affirmed LeCarre reader? Even now, when he is slightly out of date, I still love reading him.

But I have also been devouring other books--most recently Anthony Boursain's "Kitchen Confidential," and Meg Greenfield's "Washington."l

I've read almost everything le Carre has written, most recently The Tailor of Panama. The end of the cold war kind of yanked the carpet out from under him, but he still has his talent. The Looking Glass War is my all time favorite--his writing at its succint and polished best.

Setanta:

I found an autographed first edition by Hodder and Stoughton of "The Night Manager" in a little London bookshop the last time I was there. One of my treasures.

I like LeCarre's excellent writing and also his depth.

Just tryin' to place it in my mental Atlas, Boss . . . so, if you inflate yer tires really, really, big, an' drive straight west, you'll hit the north end of Luzon, huh?

What time frame is Guam? I've forgotten! I presume that right about now or very soon the eye of the storm is going to be going straight through Guam. Hold on! Hang in there, Pueo! Let us know as soon as you can that you are okay!

Have any of you heard from Pueo? The latest report from the BBC is that Guam got hit pretty hard with wind speeds to 155 MPH.
