started reading A Game of Thrones on vacation, liking it more than i thought i would
That one's probably my favorite of the one's he's written so far (although I've really liked them all). I finished the first four books then took a break to read some Sci-fi...Infected and Contagious by Scott Sigler, then Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson -- all three great, fast reads. I actually listened to Scott's audiobook of Infected -- he reads it himself and it's hilarious when he tries to do the female voices. He said he took a lot of ribbing from his friends, but decided to narrate his follow-up anyway lol. Then, of course, Lev Grossman's The Magicians and The Magician King (many, many thanks for that reco)!

Martin's 5th, A Dance with Dragons, might be next although I'm saving the novellas for the inevitable dry period until he releases book six.

@Irishk,
about half way through the first book (reading and listening to a few other things along the way), if i like the rest of the four, i'll probably wait until the 5th is out in paperback so i can keep the set consistent

not sure what your take on werewolves is, but a series i quite enjoyed (even though it's more geared to teen girls) was Maggie Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls series

the third and final book in the series just came out, i'm listening in bits and pieces to the first 2 again before i get to the third

"Man Men and Philosophy" which takes the script of the. Show to highlight ideas of some of the major philosophers. So far it is ok, though I would never had paid for it.....the wife got it for me the last day our Borders was open, when everything left was 50 cents.

@djjd62,
Who doesn't love werewolves? Very Happy

My public library has eAudio available for the first two in the series, Shiver and Linger. I'm guessing they'll add Forever by the time I'm done with the first two, so thanks -- they've been added to the to-be-read list!!

At dinner last Wednesday, Setanta convinced me to read O'Brien's
The Golden Ocean. I am. It's a hoot.

Also reading Game of Thrones, having watched the HBO series.
Enjoying that as well. Tyrion Lannister is worth a read all by himself.

@Builder,
"One Nation Under Sex," a fascinating look at how the sexploits of leaders from the Founding Fathers to the present day have had an influence on U.S., and, in some cases, World History. Written by (I know) Larry Flint, and David Eisenbach, PhD. At least one of the writers is a recognized historian with some credentials, and the book is well-annotated and features a considerable index. Frankly, I'm enjoying it.

not the kind of side-splitter the reviews suggest
amusing enough
a few smiles
one grin so far
he's a good writer, and I do like reading his work MUCH better than listening to his voice

@ehBeth,
Totally agree with you, Beth, re: Sedaris's voice. It's irritating.

Two books right now .. an interesting biography of Somerset Maughm by Selina Hastings, and the first work of fiction I've read in a long time, "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov.

Just started Sex, Drugs, and Sea Slime: The Ocean's Oddest Creatures and Why They Matter . I bought it after a fascinating interview with the author on NPR's Science Friday. Fifty pages in, the book does not disappoint.
