I liked the Kite Runner OK. I'm afraid I found much of it self-indulgent and simplistic.

Pretty good yarn though.

Separately -- not the book's fault -- I worry about the movie, and the impact on the child actors in it.

I haven't, no. I think I'd have a hard time watching, knowing the backstory. Would worry about the kids too much.

I have now added "People of the Book" and the bestest "biography" of "Fawlty Towers" to my current reading list.

I haven't seen the film yet, either. But, interestingly enough, the main reason I picked up the book was because a friend recommended the movie very highly. He hadn't read the book.

I think that movie is up for some Oscars tonight.

I've seen the movie, not read the book. Ok, I'll admit, about three or four times I was almost, almost, in tears. I had to blame it on allergic reactions.

Currently reading "The Fowler Family Business"by Jonathan Meades, only just started it.

I just bought Three Cups of Tea. I was supposed to read Kite Runner, but bought this one instead.......

Also reading my usual young-audience selections. Currently Rascal (1963) and Guardians of Ga'Hoole, Book 2.

Just finished A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, by Marina Lewycka. Just wonderful! I loved it! (Thanks for the tip, hinge.)

I've made a resolution. To stop buying books ... & to borrow instead, when I can, from my local library (a mere 5 minute's walk away). That'll get around my perennial problem of buying some book, then getting side-tracked by another one (then another!), only to discover the purchased book again months down the track. Rolling Eyes
Now I'll just borrow what I want, when I want!

So I borrowed Tractors, but got confused between The Kite Runner & The Blue Kite. Which one was it, again? Confused The end result was that I've booked both, for when they're available - one in audio book form, the other in book form.
The librarians there are wonderfully helpful! Very Happy
