Is anyone familiar with a master reference source that provides the (approximate) year of manufacture for various consumer products? I'm just looking for something that if you enter say, a model number for a Maytag refrigerator, it would return the approximate year that the product was manufactured. In my case, I'm trying to evaluate the age of a number of used television sets, in order to determine the late model ones from the older model ones. At least for right now I'm trying to figure the year of manufacture for a Sony KD-27FS170 television. Any general or specific insights on any of these?

I don't know of any source for that sort of data on "new" products. As products age interest groups tend to contact manufacturers and get serial number/year data and publish it in collector/hobbiest books.

That model Sony TV is fairly new though and a quick Google search shows user reviews of it starting in early summer 2005 and ending in mid-2007 (I found reviews of it spanning from June 2005-July 2007) so it is probably a good bet that it was introduced in the spring/summer of 2005.
