the search for meaning begins with meaninglessness!

i was reading the posts here about colin dean and trying to figure out if there was anything to them.

pretty much s/he seems to be saying... "philosophy is meaninglessness..." yeah okay. so i guess s/he's just in it for s**ts and giggles.

"meaningless" though it may be, i seemed to recall something (plato?) said that at least seemed meaningful at the time, about how the more you know, the more you realize you don't know, but i don't think that's the same thing.

i think meaninglessness is a good start, but i hold onto the belief (i suppose it isn't more than that) that meaning will be found. it might not, but i don't think we've quite disproven it yet. most of all i thought the topic/twist on dean's um, "thesis" would be amusing, apologies if you don't agree Smile

Osso looks in, nods welcome to tinygiraffe, wanders off, dwelling on the meaninglessness of the blue sky out her window, or its lack of meaninglessness, or its potential meaninglessness at some point in time.

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.
-Donald Rumsfeld

I don't know, to accept meaninglessness seems to me to be giving in to despair.

i'd agree, but only talking about accepting meaninglessness as a conclusion. as a first step, i don't think it's necessarily a problem.
