The best example I can give here is Kant's deontological ethical system-
did he actually want us to follow his system, or did he publish it as a theory?
Maybe this is the difference between philosophers, and moral/religious leaders.

Nice question,

I recently discovered that that the eminent spiritual teacher J. Krishnamurti was "cheating" was his sister-in-law.

Given that oratory is power, and power is sexually attractive, I think all pundits whatever the "moral flavour" of their systems are all susceptible to the aphorism" The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak".
