another amazing group of musicians that I was truly blessed to see in performance

just learning about the polyphonic Corsican style Barbara Fortuna sings in was extraodinary

@ehBeth,
25 or so years ago I took the train to Chicago to go to Rose Records

I bought a Japanese pressing of this album

it was worth the trip ... though a bit hard to explain to the customs agents ... you went to Chicago and bought a Mel Torme album? yes, yes I did

Van Dyke Parks - They believed Song Cycle would be the album of the year. But it failed to sell. I personally love it. Here is The All Golden.

Robert Mitchum's most popular record was Thunder Road. He also did his own kind of Calypso and country songs.

The Stampeders were a group from Calgary, Alberta. They had a hit with this in 1971. Rich Dodson does the vocals and plays the banjo. According to Randy Bachman (The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive) on his weekly radio program on CBC, Vinyl Tap, Dodson took a four string banjo and restrung it with guitar strings for this song.

Stealers Wheel was/is a folk rock group from Scotland founded by Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan (neither of whom is now a member of the current group). They had a hit with this song in 1972. The song was based on an actual incident in which some record company dweebs were deciding their fate (or thought they were) over dinner with Rafferty and Egan sitting between them. Joe Egan sings the lead vocals.
