Seeing friends tab ?

How is it possible for non contacts to be prevented from seeing the friends tab ?

I can search for anyone it seems even if I'm not their friend and can see who they are friends with even if not the complete profiles....

Please help !! My wife wants me to create an account for her/us but wants me to prove no one else can see it !!
