I wasn't too sure where to put this but I guess here is as good a place as any. I DO remember some of these ads! Sheesh, I am really getting up there in age. It's amazing how far advertising has come.

Are these all for real?
Some of them are eye-popping.

@George,
Seriously.

This is the good part about "political correctness," IMO -- I'm very glad that this kind of thing is not considered acceptable anymore.

I asked myself the very self-same question, George.

@sozobe,
Most of these ads were created before women were in the workplace at ad agencies.

I don't remember many of them specifically but I do remember the fight we went through in the 60's and '70's to eliminate similar ones.

The stereotype was then converted to that of a weak, female-dominated male figure in ads for cleaning supplies, etc.

Here's a list of articles on gender stereotypes used in advertising:

@Butrflynet,
I remember many of them. The more false one was a woman, in the spotless kitchen, cooking with perfectly quaffed hair, perfect makeup, earrings, bracelets, wearing a dress, wearing high heals, and wearing clean apron, cooking dinner over a hot stove without sweating.

WOW! I think my favorite is the baby girl sleeping with the revolver. These are almost scary with the load of BS they were spewing.

Spasmolysis referrs to a "spastic colon", among other colon disorders.

Donnatal is an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of
irritable bowel syndrome (irritable colon, spastic
colon, mucous colitis) and
acute enterocolitis

An Rx is needed in order to buy Donnatal.
