At my step daughters wedding, this one guy started break dancing for gods sake.

well, just doing the spinny thing on the floor...he was actually pretty good.

Here's a picture of the world largest spontaneous breakout of the Electric Slide.

It erupted during a grand opening of a new Circut City in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Here is an example of some really bad electric sliding. Total chaos. You notice how others are ignoring them to help them save face.

Clearly this was started too early in the festivities, when no alcohol had been served.

Tell me how the electric slide goes...?

I went to a free concert recently, the band did sort of 70's funk/ soul, and a group of women got up and started doing this dance in a line -- then several other people joined them and I thought they learned incredibly fast, then figured out it must be some established dance. I didn't recognize it though.

Quote:
[edit] Steps (a variant)
1-4 Grapevine right (tap and clap on 4)
5-8 Grapevine left (tap and clap on 8)
9-12 Walks back (tap and clap on 12)
13-16 Rock forward & back:
13: Left forward
14: Tap right toe at the left heel, snap
15: Right backward
16: Tap left toe at the right heel, clap
17-20 Repeat 13-16
21 Left forward with 1/4 turn left
22 Hop onto left foot with right leg in the air to start again
It takes 44 steps to return to the downbeat (1) and 88 steps to return to your original position. the Electric Slide is actually a variation step - in place of the grapevine - your step right and slide your left foot over to it.

OMG no!!! Not that line dance lol!!!!!

I felt exactly the same as you - NO LINE DANCING at my wedding. Then I was having such a great time and my friends little kids came up and asked if they could have that God awful song and I said O-K and actually let the DJ play that song.

I did not dance to it though - but the kids loved it.

That's IT!

Thanks Chai.

(ehBeth, I wore legwarmers briefly at 11 or so but otherwise had nothing to do with Jane Fonda or her workouts.)

Very tribal. I don't know if brides and grooms realize how much bonding goes on at a wedding reception.

At the most recent event it was the joining of a family of Martini and wine sippers to a family of beer drinkers.

The bride, a woman you would all love, was the daughter from the wine side. She entered the reception, cut in line at the bar and ordered an Amstel Light.

In a bottle.

The party begain.

Did I mention it was black tie?

All the men wearing tuxedos were the same until they started to dance, then they were stomping and sliding all over the floor.

All the beautiful ladies in long dresses shook it like biker babes in tight leather pants. You wouldn't think a shimmy would look as fraughtfully erotic on a satin-wrapped doll, but it does.

There were no strangers by nine o'clock.

Yeah I know it is for the guests, that is why the dj is going to play mostly "by request" stuff. My fiance' used to be a dj so we have all types of music. Plus, we both like everything. Rock is just our fav. Now you all have me wondering if we should at least bring some line dancing music incase people request it???

The Electric Slide

Marcia Griffiths wrote:
It's Electric!

You can't see it
It's electric!
You gotta feel it
It's electric!
Ooh, it's shakin'

Jiggle-a-mesa-cara
She's a pumpin' like a matic
She's a movin' like electric
She sure got the boogie

You gotta know it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!
Now you can't hold it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!
But you know it's there,
Yeah here there everywhere

I've got to move,
I'm going on a party ride
I've got to groove, groove, groove,
And from this music I just can't hide.

Are you comin' with me?
Come let me take you on a party ride
And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you
I'll teach you the electric slide

Some say it's mystic
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't resist it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't do without it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara she's a pumpin' like a matic
She's movin' like electric
She sure got the boogie

Don't wanna lose it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
But you can't choose it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
But you know it's there,
Yeah here there everywhere

It was played at our wedding. There's nothing like watching the video, 15 years later, and seeing half of my cousins go the wrong way.

Just woke up....yawn.....

ah....first sip of java.

not to dwell on the ElecSlide, but there's just so many songs people can dance that to....for some reason, that song "you dropped the bomb on me.....baby" is running through my head.

I think it'd be a good thing to have a wide variety available...depending on where the party goes. Not everyone likes rock, and there's lots of different types.

plus, people just like doing something in a group sometimes, playing the fool.

It's all good.
