We recently bought an LCD TV. In the same room, we have a skylight. Whet we have noticed, now that summer is almost here, is that the sun hits the screen during parts of the day.
Will sunlight affect the LCD screen? Would it be prudent to throw something over the screen to protect it?
Other than messing with your ability to see the picture when the glare is present, it shouldn't have any effect in the TV - or at least no more of less effect than it would have on any other TV. You aren't going to damage the LCD screen itself with sunlight exposure.
You may have damaged it. You should immediately box it up and send it to me so I can check it out.

cjhsa- Not on your life. That set is MINE!
When in doubt, apply hammer.
There's usually nothing in the do's and dont's in the owner's manual about long exposure to the heat of direct sunlight. However, the basically acrylic screen will soften at 175 deg. and a consumer has no way to measure surface temperature of a screen. I just don't believe it's a good idea but I can check with our engineer/technicians. However, if it's less than an hour, I don't believe there is a problem.
