What is your favorite piece of clothing? When and how did you acquire it?
Is your attachment emotional or associated with good memories? Have you saved it, if so, for how long?

The piece of clothing that first came to mind when I asked this question was a dress I received when I was six years old.
Being a "great depression" baby, I never had a store-bought dress. My mother sewed my clothing. When she couldn't afford yardage, she cut down adult women's clothing to try to fit me. It didn't work very well on a child. If you didn't live through the Depression, you might not understand how difficult it was.
On my sixth birthday, my aunt, who lived in Wisconsin, visited me in California and gave me a beautiful dress she had purchased. It had a knee-length flared skirt made of navy blue and white polka dots. It fit me. I treasured my first dress that made me look like a cute little girl.
I have a picture of me in that dress, which is one of my treasured photos.
