An ozone molecule is made up of three oxygen atoms bonded with each other by two double bonds and a co-ordinate bond. CFCs, or chlorofluorocarbons, emitted by plastic and refrigerators, attack the co-ordinate bond. Hence, the ozone molecule breaks up.

Subsequent loss of ozone molecules thins the ozone layer. Thinning of ozone layer allows the harmful UV and IR rays of the sun to reach the earth uninterrupted. These have been reported to cause several diseases including skin cancer.

So, buy yourself lots of sunscreens!
