I need a song for girls

Reply Tue 24 Apr, 2007 01:49 pm
Im making a video out of some of my pictures .

I have been following one of the groups of girls at my daughters day care and they are just the cutest things in the world.

Always dressed up, giggling, running, fighting.. you name it.

But, I need some background music.... something... girly..

These girls are 5 and under. The youngest I think is 3.

but I dont want "pop music"

more of something along the lines of a lullabye..

Thank Heaven For Little Girls?

Thank heaven for little girls
for little girls get bigger every day!

Thank heaven for little girls
they grow up in the most delightful way!

Those little eyes so helpless and appealing
one day will flash and send you crashin' thru the ceilin'

Thank heaven for little girls
thank heaven for them all,
no matter where no matter who
for without them, what would little boys do?

Thank heaven... thank heaven...
Thank heaven for little girls!

Wolf lady, are you doing your video for commercial reasons, or personal. That makes a big difference.

I'd say "Daddy's Little Girl" but that might not be the case with all the little girls.

I thought of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" right away, but certainly not lullaby-ish.

personal reasons.

Essentially, what is happening is that

some of the moms want me to catch this group of girls together because one is graduating sooner then the others and they will all end up going to other schools.
They want to see pictures of Kindergarden // Preschool best buddies..

But they LOVE to run and squeal when I bring out my camera.

So, i want to take these giggly shots of running girls and turn it into a "play"time video..
I have some pictures of each girl up close, I have some of them in random pair combinations, and I have others where they are playing with diffrent kids.

Where can I hear the song you are talking about Boomer?

I don't have a clue. I don't do that music web stuff at all. The famous version is done by Maurice Chevalier.

Hey, Wolf Lady. That's Maurice Chevalier, and you might want to choose something else.

Not a lullabye at all but from your description "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story might be fun....

Quote:
I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
I feel pretty and witty and gay
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me today
I feel charming
Oh so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real
See the pretty girl in that mirror there?
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face
Such a pretty dress
Such a pretty smile
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing
Feel like running
And dancing for joy
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy
I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
That the city should give me its key
A committee
Should be organized to honour me
I feel dizzy
I feel sunny
I feel fizzy and funny and fine
And so pretty
Miss America can just resign

The "pretty wonderful boy" part doesn't really work but otherwise....

Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Apple Blossom Fairy
All The Pretty Little Horses (Kim Robertson's version)
Shaker Medley (Freyda Epstein)
Angel Kisses (Crystal Gayle's version)
Light Up the World (Joanne Shenandoah's version)

Soft and within the lullabye range, are all of the above. Actually, a friend of mine had me sing and record Somewhere Over The Rainbow for her because I can always get her baby to stop crying as soon as I start singing it. Laughing Too funny. But .....it is calming and soothing and yet upbeat.

I love Apple Blossom Fairy, also.

How about the Pummy Ummy Umpkin Song?

OK, seriously, maybe one of the old songs from Sesame Street? The moms would relate to that.

AH! Got IT!!!!

Good Morning, Star Shine!

Julia--John Lennon

Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you,
Julia

Julia, Julia, oceanchild, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering,
In the sun

Julia, Julia, morning moon, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind, Julia

Julia, sleeping sand, silent cloud, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Hum hum hum...calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia, Julia, Julia

or....

if you want it to be slow, a little sad and bitter sweet, there's that song from Fiddler on the Roof....

Artist: Lyrics
Song: Sunrise, Sunset Lyrics
(Tevye)
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

(Golde)
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

(Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he get to be so tall?

(Golde)
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

(Men)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

(Women)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

(Tevye)
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?

(Tevye)
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

(Perchik)
They look so natural together

(Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be

(Perchik & Hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

(All)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

There's a Jacques Brel (I think its Brel) song called something like, "If You Only Have Love" which is very melodic. It might work.

Donovan's Jennifer Juniper

Jennifer Juniper lives upon the hill,
Jennifer Juniper, sitting very still.
Is she sleeping ? I don't think so.
Is she breathing ? Yes, very low.
Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?
Jennifer Juniper, rides a dappled mare,
Jennifer Juniper, lilacs in her hair.
Is she dreaming ? Yes, I think so.
Is she pretty ? Yes, ever so.
Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?
I'm thinking of what it would be like if she loved me.
You know just lately this happy song it came along
And I like to somehow try and tell you.
Jennifer Juniper, hair of golden flax.
Jennifer Juniper longs for what she lacks.
Do you like her ? Yes, I do, Sir.
Would you love her ? Yes, I would, Sir.
Whatcha doing Jennifer, my love ?
Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.
Jennifer Juniper vit sur la colline,
Jennifer Juniper assise trs tranquille.
Dort-elle ? Je ne crois pas.
Respire-t-elle ? Oui, mais tout bas.
Qu'est-ce que tu fais, Jenny mon amour ?
Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.

Listen to a sample here.

These all sound great, but, I cant hear them?

The lyrics read the way I want a song to sound.. but.. the music is important.

On my website, I have one example of a picture movie set to music.

http://www.melissasphotographs.com/picturepage.html

and I think that song is perfect, but since it is part of my advertisement, I dont want to "sell it" to someone ya know?

But that is the kind of music I am thinking of.

All right, I listened to the music on your site...

listen to this guy....

Vusi Mahlasela

It's a link to npr, an interview that about 6-7 minutes long. He's singing at the beginning...and if you slide the time up to right before 5 minutes you'll hear him singing a peppy little song. Click on "Listen"

Give yourself a gift though and listen to the entire interview, I especially loved the story he told about his grandmother.

When he started singing the song at the end, I found myself just grinning from ear to ear.
