Don't watch the show, don't know the guy. I agree that it was a bad judgment, it has clearly resulted in some bad publicity that I don't
expect will help his ratings...but just because the media has a field day doesn't actually mean what he did was a huge deal. It wasn't a big deal when Dean screamed. It wasn't a big deal when the year became y2k. It wasn't a big deal when Hilary & Clinton...you know. The fact that he admitted it was a bad decision doesn't mean diddly-squatt, because saying that is the politically correct recovery anyway. He is probably thinking "what a bunch of idiots, don't they have anything better to comment on than my silly racist jokes?"
Anybody who takes offence at what someone says, assuming it doesn't cost money, is on the look out for something to be offended about. Some of the ladies these days can't find any other way of feeling alive.
There still is a serious racial matter to all of this that is underscored by comments from and the Rutgers team.
The media is making a field day admittedly, because that is what they do...sadly.
Just out of curiosity, is anyone black here who are making the comments that are downplaying it?
One can see it as a joke, or one can see it as the thin edge of a wedge.
If you start accepting racist "jokes" as ok, then when do you start accepting the stereotypes behind the racist "jokes?"
'zactly, drewDad. That reply is right on the money.
...and furthermore, it's all the goddammed media's fault! I saw Anderson Cooper last night and he was asking Whoopie Goldberg, who seems to be serving as CNN's "black people expert" for the purposes of this story, what she thought of his comments, and does she think he "gets it", and is he really apologetic enough, and...holy ****, I wanted to throw a shoe through the f*cking TV screen!
And now, the media has put these Rutgers girls out there and they have no choice but to respond publicly. They pretty much HAVE to show how they've been wronged, and they have to go through this whole bullshit display of speaking out against racism and setting up a face-to-face meeting to discuss racial issues and their feelings and blah blah blah in front of the whole country...what if these girls don't WANT to go through all this ****? What if some of them don't want their personal feelings about racism put on display for everyone!? What about them, huh!!!??? The supposed "VICTIMS" or this horrendous event! Congratulations, media dickheads!!! You have probably made this whole thing ten times WORSE for the Rutgers women's basketball team! Great job, a-holes!
I've seen both EOE and Snood comment, and they seem to have been less than charmed.
DD has make a good point, and for however much some white males continue to claim that this is not a significant incident, it is illustrative of an assumption by far too many white males that women and blacks are inferior, in a world rightly run by white males.
a lot of good (and interesting) commentary has been made here.

Geez, that sure sounds misogynistic. So, anyone who was offended by Imus' statement was just "out there, looking" for something to be offended by, eh? Interesting.
Whopppee Goldberg, Black Person Expert
It has a ring kicky.
Not black, but I am female and Ho wouldn't offend me. It speaks to the person saying it, not to me.
If you think someone is gonna start believing the stereotypes then by all means don't watch Mind of Mencia.
I'm hoping we are smart enough to know when a tv/radio personality says something stupid and recognize it as such. Who is gonna internalize that and go "Oh, I'm a black female, I must be a nappy headed ho."
When Roseanne Barr made derogatory comments I didn't suddenly become white trash.

I can only assume that you haven't read many of the posts by Spurious, otherwise you would long ago have known that he is a dedicated misogynist.
Guess I just wasn't payin' close enough attention...
I'm bad about that...
In this case, i would say that your discretion was the better part of sanity.

it has been a slow process but you're making progress.... I credit my influence....
Have you never heard of that snood? Sheesh.

Subconscious real misogynists always talk like that about me. You must have managed to avoid reading Germaine Greer's earthshaking works.
This had to have been the worse thing I've ever heard one human say about another. I think the media should keep following this case very closely and hounding the the issue, until Imus apologizes by stapling his ballsack to his thigh.
"Nappy headed ho's?" Why, Imus, why?
The fact that IMUS is a wrinkly burnt out whose ratings are always in trouble because HES JUST NOT FUNNY, had more to do with his line after Mcguirk's lead in. Remember his date at the white house in which he had a ratings surge? He will probably creep up to 10th place in that time slot.
( behind the community calendar channel)
I thought the girls from Rutgers showed real class when asked about the incident. They said that
" Mr Imus really doesnt know us very well. Because (someones name) is a deans list pre law, and (another girls name) is a premed major. Im a business major , I think Mr Imus understands what these subjects entail"
Only NPR reported that because it didnt stir up the pot enough>
I think Imus should be canned for his boring show. Id rather watch reruns of Jim Kramer.
