I'm afraid I don't know the full answer but I think the 2nd word may be "dyke", which is certainly "a simple mounded bank" or an "agricultural boundary".

Hopefully someone will be along with the full and correct answer soon!

for 48a (acronym for US Air National) I have ANG (american national guard) and I have go for 49d. I have only just finished the puzzle so am keen to see what others have.
Well not quite finished, what do you have for 31d? one of the Scottish clans, could be rose or ross. Also 34a popular accompaniment, I have i?e,would it be ice

Thanks for your response, I feel you could be on a winner with "ang", because 49d "go" is better than my "to"!

I also have "ice" for 34a, and agree 31d could be either "ross" or "rose"
