I was sure you had it with Isaac Chauncey, Raggedy! All I can think of is Irving Caesar, and he probably falls in the showbiz category, which rules him out.

Ike Clanton

I actually thought of him last night, before seeing your clue, but I had already logged off and was too lazy to log back in again to post my guess! His name popped into my head because I remembered that, some time back, you had used "VE" for Virgil Earp. (We've obviously been playing this game too long...)

(lol) So shall we attribute the melding of minds to over-exposure?

I'd have never guessed Ike Clanton. I hope you're correct, Bree. I C was driving me up a wall.

I'm off to lunch, so I'll post a new set of initials now and field questions/guesses when I get back (which may be some time, because it's a beautiful day and the boss is out of the office):

You got it, Raggedy! It's Sarah Siddons (for whom the Sarah Siddons Award, in All About Eve, was named), shown here in Sir Joshua Reynolds' portrait, Sarah Siddons as the Tragic Muse:

Great portrait. She was the first person that came to mind, Bree, but I had forgotten the All About Eve connection. Thomas Gainsborough also did an oil on canvas of her that hangs in the National Gallery, London, but it's too large to post here. I remembered reading somewhere that she haunted one of the theatres in London. Smile

I'll start a round, but I'm leaving in a half hour and won't be back for approximately another 3 hours if you care to set my round aside.
