I don't know who the rocket man is, but I don't think my guy had anything to do with rockets.

Not from the United Kingdom

This is a toughie, so I'll give you a hint and a tip. The tip is, this person is almost always referred to in the history books by his last name only. In fact, when I decided to use him for this question, I had to google him to find out what his first name was. So my advice is, don't focus on finding someone with the initials "GS" -- just look for someone who fits the description and whose last name begins with "S", and then look him up to see if his first name begins with "G." (Does that make sense?)

Now the hint: this person was the driving force behind an event that gave its name to the title of a best-selling 1980's novel.

P.S. There's no wordplay in my hint this time, so don't get hung up on the words "driving force" and start looking for charioteers!

Not General Santa Anna (the "G" is an actual first name, not a title)
