Hoss would be not real. But he would be alive, because he never died on the show!. (Dead if the character dies in the book or movie etc.)

I dunno if Goodhue was from LA but he did the LA City Library downtown and Pasadena City Hall plus the Panama Canal Expo building in Balboa Park in San Diego, the Nebraska State Capitol, and the National Academy of Science Building. And some site mentioned the flag in Pasadena.
