I'm stumped and I have a feeling I never heard of this person. But I'll take another hint. (Trying not to Google)

The front man and band have had approx 180 chart hits in the UK (singles and albums) totalling about 50 years of chart time.

They have had no.1 hits in 18 different countries

HM is arguably the greatest lead guitarist of all time

Without the singer they have had many instumental hits

he currently lives in Australia

you have 8 questions left not seven, I was just kidding about last one.

Actually there have been 3 different aspects to this guy's career

1. with the singer

2. without singer as an instrumental group

3. as a solo artist

It was abit misleading to say "they had 180 chart hits" that is true of the singer but the group didn't back him on all of them.

You know the rules better than I do Mac. Take account of his age and musical tastes though, his idea of a great guitarist may be different from mine.

I know of the '50's group "The Drifters", a doo-wop group popular in both US & UK, but I don't think there was an H M with them... ?

I think this group may have changed their name from the Drifters because they found out somebody else had already taken it, I.E. the one you mention Equus.

Okay. I have a confession to make. We normally try not to google in this game, but I couldn't stand it so I did.

I think I know the answer, but I'll wait for the rest to chime in.

Perhaps someone from the UK or a REALLY serious guitar freak from the US may know it, but although I know the person HM has played with, I think even that person would not be be readily recognized here-- perhaps his name would be slightly familiar. Yes, the man he played with was huge in the UK, I'm going to bet that no one here knows HM.

But let's see if anyone else wants to take a stab at it.

Hey, I could be totally wrong about my guess!!

Anyone else out there from the UK?? Cool

The singer in question (this side of the pond) was bigger than Elvis, I cant believe you havn't even heard of him.

I thought once you got the singer you would simply check to see who the members of the backing group were. Didn't know you didn't google

Dont think anyone else britside plays this game do they?

We've heard of him! Well some of us have and yes he was huge! (But not here) (if I have the right guy) Yeah, kev, we try not to google. This would have been a good for the research scavenger hunt game. Usually some one knows the answer, even to slightly obscure people but this one, I'm not so sure. But I may be wrong. (Not to say he's obscure, I just think it's a regional thing.)

Well, let's see if someone else can give it a shot.

Equus, I think (hope) you made those up.

Time to end this one so you can get on with your game.

Hank Marvin/Cliff Richards.

So, he did the Third Man Theme! We all know that!

I've always heard about Cliff Richard. One of the articles saysThey had a hit with Apache which was re-recorded by Jorgen Ingmann and released in the US and became a hit by Ingmann. Then The Ventures hit in the US and the Shadows manger decided not to promote them here. I guess that's why we don't know much about them. Looks like it didn't matter though! They seem to have done just fine!

THAT'S HANK WITH THE GLASSES:
