Latent Heat Difference!!!!!!

Reply Fri 23 Mar, 2007 02:49 pm
I am having problems setting up this problem. The problem asks for the difference in the latent between two liquids. The two liquids are at the same temp. The temp freezing point is different for the two liquids, but the same amount of heat is required to freeze the two liquids. Do I need to set one heat formula equal to the other? Please help in the set up with this. Thank you. Laughing

Presumably, you have the mass of the liquids, and the energy required to make them change state from solid to liquid.

From that, it should be straigtforward to calculate latent heat, and determine the difference.

Thats what I thought too....
That is the problem. They did not give me the mass or the energy required to change the state of the liquids. That is where I am running into the problems. Thank you for your assistance.

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I am responding to this in the wrong manner. I do not have the mass of the liquids or the energy required to change the states. All I was given was the specific heat capacity and the beginning temp for each liquid. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Do you have relative masses?
