Skunk arrived. At 3:15 this morning. Argh.

I bet it was two skunks, both primed and ready to rap for a lady's favor--and favors.

What a difference an "s" makes.

People are starting to post gardening questions in the Pets and Garden forum.

My driveway is melting. I'll be able to leave the house tomorrow.

A piliated woodpecker is drumming his territory. His rat-a-tatting is much meatier than the hairy woodpeckers or the downy woodpeckers.

Anybody know where I can get some bluebird box plans (the Pa DNR website is in for repairs and it was always a pain to navigate , its gotten so huge) . I need a simple plan and an idea as to how big the hole should be. I think its about 1.5" in Diameter, but I'm unsure since I havent built any in a bunch of years. In my walks today I covered the fencerows and discovered that the hay binders had smashed about 10 boxes (it was inadvertant but my one hay guy tries to get as much as he can by getting as close to the fences as possible.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

(That's a "it's 50 degrees outside and the sun is warm and I'm wearing just my jean jacket and feeling fine" sigh of contentment, not a scream.)

It is an absolute wonderland out there. It just jumped from winter to mid-summer like THAT. <snaps> I went out in a t-shirt and jean jacket and was too hot. Shocked Changed to tank top and light cotton button down shirt, still hot if there isn't a breeze. Might change to sandals. (Note, yes, I'm wearing pants.)

Yahoo says it's 75 right now.

From today's (London) Evening Standard (page 20, West End Final edition)

http://i11.tinypic.com/358tdf6.jpg

The situation in Germany is very similar: only birds who come back from south of the Sahara aren't here by now to breed.

Ornithologists now try to find out why/how these birds "knew" that we had such a mild winter and early spring ...
