I don't think any river is that wide. I remember reading once that the widest river in the world is @30 miles across and I can't remember the name of it - sorry.

Maybe you have your units of measurment messed up?

The Rio de la Plata is 48 kilometers (30 miles) wide making it the widest river in the world.

Maybe the Everglades; at least before they got all those drainage canals going.

Okay, it's not exactly whitewater, but it does move.

Thanks for your responses.

One of my co-workers found this:

The Sabine River Basin is relatively long and narrow, with a length of approximately 300 miles and a maximum width of approximately 48 miles. There is little development along the river until you reach the City of Orange. The Sabine River joins up with the Neches River at Port Arthur. From the City of Orange to the confluence of the Sabine and Neches River the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway flows through the river.

I think the significant part there is the word "Basin". There is a huge difference between a river and a river's basin.

It's all in how the question is asked! Wink
