Song and Dance For the Pets

My dogs get a bit testy when I feed them. This, because I make them listen to my little song first (You're the fattest little puppies that I have ever saw. You're fat fat fat, fat fat fat, fat fat fat fat fat), giving them a bit of soft shoe in the process. Their grave little eyes stare at me first, then the empty bowls, and, occasionally, they lick their lips a bit. Not to worry; I only give them two renditions before the feeding begins. They slurp it down so fast, I am picking up the empties a minute or two later.

Occasionally, I serenade my girls for no apparent reason. (Punky the dog, Punky the dog, getting fatter and fatter, looking like a hog). They appear pretty oblivious, but I enjoy my performance.

It may seem I spoil my animals, and in some ways I do, but they have no doubt who in the family is the pack leader. I do have my rules of behavior for them, and they are generally pretty good adhering to them.

We all have our rituals with our beloved animals, edgar. Can we see
a picture of your little ones around the "dinner table"?

When I have food ready for our dog, I press a squeaky toy to announce
that dinner is ready, and only then will he come and look what he's got
in his bowl.

All those who like Edgar say "aye" even if he is a great poet animal lover.

We used to have the Jake song. I don't recall all of the words but the first two lines were -- ahem --

Mommy's little sweetheart
the guy with the big feet ...

He was a little sweetheart, all right, all 85 Mastiff-y pounds of him. He enjoyed it, I like to think.

Despite the fact my song calls the dogs puppies, one is about 13 and the other perhaps 3. The 3 year old is between 80 - 90 pounds, I would guess. Haven't weighed her in a while.
