It seems as though the answer should end with an S. Could the intersecting word be aphasia instead of aphonia?

I hadn't refreshed my screen so didn't know I had a reply already (after 2am here). Yes, the word should be APHASIA and not aphonia (which means loss of voice, not speech) so 7D is 'merits', very simple!
