Borax vs Boric Acid

Reply Mon 5 Feb, 2007 11:20 am
I have been hunting on the internet for about 40 minutes trying to find a definitive answer.

Can Borax the laundry additive , kill roaches like boric acid?
Are they the same?

I found enough web pages to make me think that it could, so I mixed about 1 tablespoon of pre mix pancake flour with 1/2 cup of borax .
I lightly dusted around the back and sides of my stove, fridge and under some of my cabinets.

Being proud of my " frugal " roach bait, i keep looking up info AFTER WORDS and find most information being wishy-washy..

(sigh)

All I can tell you about Borax is that the mere mention of it forces me to sing (off key of course)

Oh Fab, I'm glad, there's lemon freshened borax in you.

Boric acid is formed via the reaction of mineral borax with other chemical compounds (chiefly sulphuric acid, though other acids or acidic minerals in aqueous suspension may be employed, generally with lower yield than the sulphuric acid method). 20 Mule Team Borax essentially is pure mineral borax, a substance which by itself is not noted for insecticidal properties - or, for that matter, for general toxicity except in disproportionately large (in trerms of ratio of chemical to bodymass of target) doses. There is little reason to expect 20 Mule Team Borax, or Boraxo, or any other borax product other than boric acid, would work in the manner you are seeking.

Boric acid works!
For ants more than for roaches. Sprinkle a mix of sugar and borax near where the ants come im. The ants take the borax back to their hole and it dissolves their exoskeletons and kills their larva. It's effective and sort of green!

I have heard that borax is effective on ants.. but not roaches.

Strange.
To bad it doesnt work on roaches too.
