Song of Myself

Today I'm following Walt's advice and singing a song of myself:

I celebrate myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.

My tongue, every atom of my blood, formed from this soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents

the same,
I, now thirty seven years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.
Creeds and schools in abeyance,
Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten,
I harbor for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard,
Nature without check with original energy.

I COMPLETED THE NEW YORK TIMES CROSSWORD PUZZLE! HOORAH FOR ME!

Anyone want to celebrate some small victory with me? Cool

Indeed Letty, Indeed.

Hoorah, Hoorah, and Hoorah.
(There's three cheers and there is more where that comes from!)

And I hesitate to tell you, I complete the crossword, frequently.
Never thought of it as a victory...
BUT-- if there is a word I cannot get, I think of it as a failure

Am i a pessimist or what ???? Confused

Hi Letty, I like your poem

or Walt's...whoever,

The small victory of cleaning my room. And with PLEASURE, for my family gave me a BEAUTIFUL sleigh bed.

And it is huge... I feel like a tiny butterfly on a cloud, in it.
Also, my laundry is almost done. THAT is victory where I live Very Happy .

I am glad you like the avatar. Alas, Marilyn was so lovely, and yet it could not save her. Kinda helps keep it in mind... 'what we are, what we are- what we are, (not how we appear face to face.)

I was about to write a limerick when I found your post:

"With me, sarcasm can have no place,
Being kind, it is like a slap in the face.
I am mostly naive
Wipe my nose on my sleeve
Having innocent, childlike, sweet grace."

(someone hurt my feelings, but it was not written in A2k)

Maybe Letty should start a Leaves of Grass thread (I love Whitman). Each day, from the beginning, a brief passage like the lovely one quoted could appear, and everyone could follow along, or add a verse....what a great piece of work! My small victory today is that I grudgingly went for my annual physical and there is nothing wrong with me. I kinda felt ripped off, but hey, I shouldn't be so cynical Very Happy

Ah, Jackie, a sleigh bed. I love sleigh beds. Hoorah for your small victories. Who hurt your feelings. I'll hurl a sling and an arrow of outrageous fortune. Smile

Hoorah for Cav(had no idea that your handle had to do with a spaniel) Shocked Glad you're in one piece with no SARS.

Walt Whitman's "Sparkles from the Wheel"...........................

And Jackie should also get a small Hamlet (redundant?) that can be cooked with an apple in it's mouth to soothe her soul by making a good table, and to make fun of by pretending it is the person who was a jerk to you while it roasts.

As I have said before, I cough in the face of SARS. I don't know anyone personally who got it. All I know is that it has destroyed us financially, and the last three months for me have been hell, business-wise.

Thank you Letty and Cav for the nice things you say.

I am GLAD you have no physical problems, Cavfancier. That is wonderful.
Sorry disease has hurt your business.

Mostly like my physician says when I have checkups--- "Well, well, best blood I've seen all week. Hope you're sharing it" Laughing

(actually, no - I am trying to keep it all. Embarrassed )

I love the idea of Leaves of Grass thread............ huh, Letty??

And what are you talking about his handle has to do with a spaniel? I just thought it was because he loved caviar???? What have I not read?

There is a double meaning to the name (I love double meanings). It relates to caviar, of which I know quite well (mostly at the expense of others, heh heh), and it also refers to my loveable dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Austin. He even put up his own webpage:

O Kay, I'm late.
Had to do a LO-TTTTS here in the galley.

Cav, I LOVE your doggie. His page is nice, and I am so glad I don't live near your marvelous cooking. I could positively LIVE OFF fish and wine................(if I could afford it) sigh

Cav, that dog is precious. It seems to me that should a cavalier King Charles scratch at the palace gates, the guards were required to let it in.
According to John Oak, HRM, prefers corgis. (fickle lady) Laughing What about a whippet? Wasn't that breed a preference of royals?

Hey, Jackie. I owe you a PM response, but somehow I couldn't access it today. Will try later. God bless, my friend.

Letty, I think it is still on the books in England that the cavs are allowed in any public building. How that is enforced today, I do not know. Cavaliers are far cuter, and more friendly than stoopid corgis, IMO.

Laughing Indeed, Cav. If dogs are so lovable, then why is the term always used to denote negative things. What's the difference between a fox and a dog? A couple of drinks. Razz
