I wish to obtain a list of the subsidiaries (or at least those of significant size) of a large publicly traded corporation.

I have read its most recent Annual Reports, but it reports its results by business line and business product not by subsidiary.

Is there any way to obtain a subsidiary listing?

You can ask the parent company, or visit their web site.

Which company is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you, Cello.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Company and/or Bank One Corporation

There was talk of a potential merger in 2004 for both companies, but I don't know if that went through.

It did. In July 2004 J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. merged with Bank One Corp. to form JPMorgan Chase &Co.

Thanks, Gollum. I found this for you:

There does not seem to be so many subsidiaries. Have you found anything better?

Thank you.

I thought it also had a thrift subsidiary (savings bank or savings & loan), but I may be wrong.

You are welcome, Gollum. I did not think that thrift & savings are still allowed in the US. I thought since so many went bankrupt a few years ago, they passed legislation to close them down. (I don't live in the US so I am not familiar with your banking system.)

Many savings banks and savings & loans were closed and/or merged out of existence -- but a fair number of them remain.

Thanks for the explanation, Gollum.

Now, I can't figure this out on my own and need your help. Is there a particular reason why you asked for subsidiaries of Bank One Corp. if it had been merged? Does that mean that it still exists? And that it is still operating?

No. When Bank One Corporation and JP Morgan Chase & Co. merged, it took the latter name.

Thanks, Gollum. That's what I thought too, that's why it did not make sense to me when you asked for the subs of Bank One. Smile

No. All the former branches and departments of Bank One Corporation are now part of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

I thought that J.P. Morgan Chase & Company had a thrift subsidiary and was trying to locate it. My mistake.
