Thank you for taking some time to help me out. My 5th grade daughter came home with this problem, and its been such a long while since i've last dealt with probability (pro'lly highschool, lol) i don't know what to do. I goes like this:
In the dryer there are 18 red socks, 24 white socks, 8 blue socks, and 10 black socks. Fred wants to have two matching socks to wear. He reaches into the dryer and without looking pulls out one sock at a time. What is the minimum number of socks he needs to pull out to be sure he will have a matching pair?...why?
thank you so much!
i've read the pigeon principle now, from top to bottom hahahahahahaha thanks again!
