If you want to make a small fortune with a small business, start with a large fortune.

Before I can come up with a name I will need to know the nature of the business.

I would invest in some very basic book keeping and tax software. Also, don't forget to get a tax id for your business and use it to open a separate account. Keep that money separate!

Is this your photography business or your cleaning business?

Cleaning business.

My photography will get a little more attention after this is off the ground.
Mostly what i am doing there is just a few small advertisements in parenting magazines and local papers.

Nothing more. I dont have enough time until I can get this business at a self sustaining pace.

Essentially, I have been working on my own for a year and a half cleaning houses.

I have tried every method, almost every cleaning product and have burned out my fair share of small appliances.

I know what works and what doesnt.

I know how to attract the types of customers I want .

What I would like to do is have 2 or 3 employees . I want to give them the freedom to make thier own schedule with the clients on their own days.

I will provide the products, and the work. They just do the job.

i want them to do what I do.
Work in peoples homes and become , in a sense , a friend.

I want them to have the freedom they deserve to reschedule to keep a good balance of work and family.
But that will be between my employee and my clients.

make sense?

Sounds like what you're looking for is a "balanced life". Anything spring to mind from that? I'll think on it.

Buckets, Brooms and Broads

Get yourself a really ood bookkeeper/accountant and let them do your payroll and your personal taxes. You still should take a small business accounting course so you understand the big picture.

Bucket & Brooms sounds probably better.

Wells Fargo has an accounting and payroll service that's
good and doesn't cost a fortune.

"Sweepin the Heart of Texas"

"(Your real name)'s Blue Bonnets"

Its good to have a service 's name actually tell the potential client waht you do. Down at Wharton they did a study on small service businesses (everything from delivery , cleaning, plumbing, to architects and engineers) and they found that service Identification somehwre in the company's name actually accounted for an increase of about 25+% in actual work. I have no idea how they did this, I just read it in a Penn Mag. I guess that riding around, people see your name and if the logo or name has the type of services, its a good thing.

'Shewolf' den cleaning service'-

Are you really sold on having employees? It's one thing to be responsible for what you do in someone's home. It's quite another to worry about what your employees are doing. Then, there are the various employment taxes, as Green Witch mentioned.
