Hey Guys & Girls
Can someone help me please!
Have no idea about 13a, 9d.
Also would love some help understanding these three. Have concluded the following but not sure if correct or why (can someone explain the cryptic code)
11a Nuts?
16a Exits?
23d Oppose?
Thanks, I am new to cryptics and I am still trying to get my head around them so any explaination would be appreciated!

Hi Catgirl
I have the same answers as you for 11a, 16a and 23d but can't really explain why just that they were the only words I could find that made any sense to the clue.
I have jars for 13a and designed for 9d but again can't explain.
Lezzles is a champ at explaining cryptic clues but she seems to be missing at this time, hope she gets back soon. Dutchy is very good too so maybe he will assist. PLEASE Very Happy
Regards Tuesday

Catgirl,

13a. Jangles. 1 meaning of this is jars which = honey pots
9d. planned = designed. initials = sign + legal doc = deed. Put sign in the middle of deed.
Your others are correct.
Get a good thesaurus and that will help you heaps.

hi all - home from the hospital at last!

You asked for some explanations for the cryptics. Hope these are of help. You just have to keep your mind very flexible for the cryptics - lots of lateral thinking, double meanings, hidden anagrams, etc. After a while it becomes second nature to slip into "cryptic gear". Until then, any queries at all, fire away; happy to be of assistance!

13a jangling noise = jarring noise; thus jangles = jars
honey pot = jars

11a - shock return of eccentric
(return = reverse the word) shock = stun (nuts)
eccentric = nuts

16a exist somehow (somehow indicates anagram, ie, mixed up) = exits
goes outdoors = exits

23d return some Aesop poetry to counter
(return some = turn phrase backwards but don't use it all)
Aesop poetry = yrteOP POSEa = oppose
to counter = to oppose

Hope that helps with the explanations. Any more problems just fire away!
Thanks for the pat on the back Tuesday!

Strange how you can look at a clue 30 times then suddenly have a moment of clarity where all makes perfect sense. Have to admit that didn't happen with these ones! Thanks for the explanations everyone. This is the best site, so stoked to have stumbled onto it.

Hi Lezzles

Hope you are well after your stay in hospital and
I would like to say welcome back too.

As I am up to date with the books, I have gone
back to Colossus/Cryptic 108 to give it a go.

I have never finished a cryptic before , I just have
to learn the ins and outs of all of the clues.

Anyway, welcome back.

Best Regards

Tigiie Smile
