Do you have a shovel? Spade? Anything that has a somewhat sharp edge and a long handle?

If there is any water at all (as opposed to completely solid ice), you could probably chip it off. Just go WHAMMO about in the middle and then work from there.

Wow, I'm so abashed.

I just started another thread about this, and didn't realize shewolf beat me to the punch.

I'm working from home today.
Yesterday I had to go into the office in the morning for a couple of hours, but left as soon as I could. Thank God for email and thumb drives.

I'm not rushing out in the morning either, probably not until noon.

The girls were very excited to pick icicles, make snowballs, and teeny-tiny snowpeople.

No doubt it will be on the blog in the next few days....

Ill trade you!

Over the weekend we got several INCHES of sleet (I've never seen that much before) and THEN freezing rain. There's four inches of ice on my deck, and three-foot drifts of ice outside my door. You can't even shovel it. It's packed solid. I haven't been anywhere since Friday.

The temperature isn't supposed to get above freezing for at least two more days.

We had about four inches of snow today!

Mo loves snow and he woke up this birthday morning to huge flakes drifting down.

We hiked up to school to discover only about 100 kids and 20 or so teachers had made it in yet. The grouped the kindergartener's, first graders and second graders together. They were looking for extra hands to help out so I stuck around.

Mo got to wear his birthday crown while the whole gang sang him happy birthday. Then we all painted and played with play dough for an hour and a half until they decided to close the school.

Walking home we ran into Mr. B who then decided to just blow off work and take us out for pizza.

What a fun day. I love snow.

What a bunch of wimps! You get an inch of snow and a little ice and no one can walk or drive - jeepers. I had several feet of snow in the past and had to haul my butt into work.

You haven't lived until you've experienced the horrible sound of hundreds of ice scrapers simultaneously scrape-scrape-scraping on hundreds of car windshields after a concert or other social event in mid-january in a northern town.

In Austin's defense...most cities in the South have little or no snow removal equipment. The people who live there have little or no experience driving on snow or ice. Nobody owns a snow shovel.

When we lived in Cleveland, Ohio, they had 77 inches of snow that winter. But we never once had to drive on it. The streets were cleared by 8 a.m. every morning. Here in Tulsa, they only have enough equipment and salt/sand mixture to clear major streets and intersections. Getting to those streets, though, you're on your own. With 4" of ice on these hills, a lot of people can't get out of their neighborhoods. The stores don't begin to stock enough de-icer because this hardly ever happens.

Yeah, I know, it IS funny that the city shut down.

I remember growing up in Jersey and I'd drive to school in a blizzard, or go to work. No big deal. But there, they'd salt the roads and everything.

I was driving through a cemetary once during the winter, tried to do a K turn, and almost drove my fathers Lincoln off a cliff. The wheels where a-spinnin' and I got out and looked and saw I was about this close (holds thumb and index finger close together) to the edge. No cells phones then, no siree, you just dealt with it. I thought it was funny that I was in a pretty appropriate place to kill myself.

Yeah, with no salt, and just some crappy sand, it stays slippery.

But on the other hand, it'll be like 50 degrees out and these little kids will be hauling ass down my street, going to school at the end of the block, with their hoodies all pulled up and their hands jammed into their pockets. Same thing with a lot of adults, like it's freezing or something.

Jesus.

I've posted on this elsewhere - I was raised in snowland as a child, but had never driven in it, living in coastal California as I did for decades. WEEEEEE had twelve inches in this neighborhood for a bunch of days recently. Now this is nothing compared to Chicago, where we arrived in a blizzard in 1950, but it bemuses me now. Not only don't I have snow tires, chains, or any kind of de-ice-ing tool (I used my sponge mop holder to get ten inches of snow off my car), I also don't have boots, or clete-like shoes. Turns out not a lot of my neighbors do either.

Gonna be 12 degrees tonight.. Dys told me it was 5 sometime last week, but I handn't noticed.
Pacco is well prepared, he's double coated.

It is nothing like the cold here. Here it is bitter , bone chilling cold.
Its the humidity.

There it is just cold, but not painful.

(sigh)
