Two Tanka

From outside my house,
only the faint distant sound
of gentle breezes
wandering through bamboo leaves
in the long evening silence.

Late evening finally
comes: I unlatch the door
and quietly
await the one
who greets me in my dreams.

-- Otomo No Yakamochi, (718-785)

What's the meaning of "door"? Is this the door to her house? Is this the door to her memories? Is this her heart?

Why does love only come in dreams?

Well methinks if you read the original japanese it wouldn't be quite so mysterious & deep as you portray it Wink

If you didn't know Japanese, it would be more mysterious and far deeper than the English would indicate!

Monger, That's the first time I've heard anybody describe Japan's economy as "peachy." LOL

The Japanese culture has something many others have lost. I'm a big fan of Japanese animation. (anime / manga)
