L.E., The poem and the story resonated in a number of ways. My father's family was hard-hit during the Great Depression, but he, his parents, and his five siblings managed to stay together. Hungry and cold--but together.
Hearing about war in your home country reminded me of how lucky we Yanks were to not have such horrors visit us until September 11, when people went out for the day and were never seen again. I shudder.
The stupidity, rigidity, and cruelty of the system also rings a bell for me.
And I'm a bit relieved to see that I wasn't the only blubberer in the crowd.
Hey, hey, Margo!!
I'm hangin' in there ... or here, anyrood.
'Course you might figger from my response time you're the one's been left hangin'. Sorry about that.
Hope your game is on. As usual this time 'o year, Mrs. D is glued to the telly for y'all's open.
You okay, littlek? Nice and cold up there? Today's our first day of real winter; been pretty mild til now - high only in the 20's today and a few flakes blowing around. So they's a lot of brass monkeys goin' about lookin' for welders.
Good to see ya!
