You've got it right mate, "theme" is the word.
140a = twitch
149a = ideal
163a = others

As you state, you're left with 't?e?e', my word speller gives me three words, theme, there and these. Obviously 'theme' is the one.
My large Chambers Crossword Dictionary gives "theme" as an alternative to "thread".

My entry has gone in with "theme". Good luck with yours.
