hi there, im in grade 9, and im reading the poem. i read the book, Go Ask Alice, and i find the poem is exectly like the book. my favorite part of the poem is this,
"there's no other way and there's no need to look
for deep down inside
you know you are hooked
you'll desperatly run to the pusher, and then
you'll welcome me back to your arms once again.
And when you return, just as i fortold
i know that you'll give me your body and soul
you'll give up your morals, your conscience, your heart
and you will be mine
till death do us part."
well, i only read this poem today, pretty ironic, eh?
well post soon
I remember that book. I can't believe kids are still reading it thirty years later.
Another book I loved when I was about your age was Season of the Witch. I can't remember the name of the author, but it was about this girl from the suburbs who ran away to live with some hippies in NYC. I loved it, just the freedom behind the idea of doing that, but my mom hated me to read that book, so I had to hide it under my bed whenever I took it out of the library.
Do kids still read that book?
That poem though is powerful; it gives an accurate description of what drugs or an addiction can do to a person.
spottyspot111,
Do you understand what that poem is about?
